Varanus glauerti


Scientific name:  Varanus glauerti


Distribution:  Australia.  Kimberly Western Australia to NT.

Habitat:  Gorges and escarpments inhabiting rock outcrops and sheltering in deep crevices.  Will seek out dead trees for refuge.

Brief description:  SVL 80cm with a total length of 240cm.   Reddish brown in color with light grey to tan rows that sport olive color spots.  A smaller goanna that is perfect for one with limited space.  Should be kept as pairs or trios in a vertical vivarium with plenty of hiding places, branches, water bowl, and a hot spot of 120F.   Readily takes insects, small mice, and lizards.  Will become semi-tame.  Females can lay several clutches per season.
